never played it and do not own it but it does look nifty.

is there much difference between the first one and CK2? the second was released in 2012 but is still selling for 40 bucks... and has good metacritic rating

CK2 and a bunch of its DLCs are on sale a lot. Check bundlestars, humblebundle, and steam every once in a while for when it is.

Also, the game has a fair learning curve, so you might not want to start a multiplayer game until you've got a few games under your belt (unless you start in Ireland in 1066).
