Title: How long should I microwave my steak?
Post by: Kenneth Kenstar on November 28, 2011, 03:11:26 pm
I want it to be really well done so that it goes well with large amounts of ketchup.

Whats your wattage and do you mind if it's cut up?

I don't know my microwave's wattage, I didn't see that on the front anywhere.

I definitely don't mind if it's cut up, but I hope you don't have it yourself because I prefer the way my mom cuts it.

I'll just guess and say 1000
If it was me, I cut it into strips and nuke it for 1.5 to 2 minutes and check it.  If you try to nuke a big chunk you'll have varying temps and that can be unpleasant no matter how much ketchup you use. Bovine is tough to microwave and be happy about it afterwards.

I actually like it chewy.

What would be the optimal setting for chewy steak w/ ketchup?

you could try 60% power and 2.5 - 3 minutes.  I'm sort of guessing here because I've only attempted to reheat tri-tip quesadillas with varying success.  What kind of steak are we talking, New York strip?

I've done it before.  It's not that good.  But it does work.  They come out kinda like fluffy buffet type eggs.

Well, there is Heinz, of course.  Then all the other brands that try to emulate Heinz.  Then there is apparently the purple kind.  But if it is a steak, then you want a specialised steak ketchup - the chunky kind.  You might have to go to a yuppie's home to find it, but it is really the right way to go.

On the subject of MW a steak, maybe it's the Irish in me, but what you should do is put it in a bowl of water, and then nuke the whole kit and cabootle for 5 minutes on high.  It will taste like shit, but at least be more recognizable as shit than MW it straight up, and will deliver a more consistently chewy experience.

If you really want to spruce it up, cover the bowl with a little aluminium foil, and watch the sparks fly.

I never would have guessed that Llamavore was Thai.

I saw a guy on TV eat fried tarantulas or something, he said they tasted like crab. makes sense... crabs are basically sea spiders. well except some crabs just eat carrion... the spiders eat fresher food so they might taste even better.

but no, I didn't eat them. anything smaller than a tarantula isn't really edible, it's all bony legs and hairs and fangs and guts. I think the part you'd want to eat is the leg meat.

Well, Llamavore, thanks for that ramble, but it is a little beside the point, isn't it?  Are you Thai?

Also, I don't think Abe specified that he planned to eat the steak.  Seriously Abe, what are you planning to do with your micro-boiled ketchup steak?  Practice cunnilingus?

Indian food makes thai taste like cotton candy....
Title: Re: How long should I microwave my steak?
Post by: Buck Turgidson on December 04, 2011, 07:48:03 am
Good point - but Indian food is more honest.  As you eat it you know there will be repercussions in 20 minutes (especially if you tell them that you've lived in India, so not to hold back).  It really is like burning the candle at both ends, with a colossal "hoops of fire" finish.

Thai goes down smooth with an explosice, causitic finish.  Lemongrass my ass.

they wiggle around for a bit then stumble over. the microwaves boil their insides until their abdomen pops. smells bad.

if your microwave is fancy enough there is probably a setting for cooking meat where you enter the weight and it auto times it for you.
