The title says it all. Just think of your top 5 favorite animes of all time. If you cant just take a guess.
(Note: I may have forgotten to include some animes into consideration at the time I made this list)
My top 5 atm is:
5. Lucky Star
-Its funny...thats all I really have to say about it.
4. Code Geass
-This is an anime that needs no introduction. Its a very good anime. Its my #1 favorite involving an anti-hero. Though Im not a huge fan of giant robots in animes.
3. School Days
-For those who have seen this anime, it needs no explanation. Even though most people hates (or hated) high school CockPony, its always fun to watch when it wasnt happening to you.
2. Pretty Cure
-I kno this anime seems to be more for girls, esp. due to the lack of male characters. But there's something about it I really like. I just love it. Many consider this anime to be similar to Sailor Moon though. To be honest this is almost tied w/ my #1
1. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
-By far for me, one of the most scariest animes Ive seen in a while. There isnt a scarier one out there i havent seen yet. Sure it has its moments of comedy, for some reason, but its plain out fear and gore throughout the series. The story is somewhat complicated to follow, but then again, most animes in this genre are the same. Besides, Ive managed to put 2-and-2 together w/ this anime.
Your turn.
-
Hmm...
This is tough. In no particular order:
Genshiken
Seto no Hanayome
Dragon Ball
Moyashimon
Eureka 7
-
blood + (the one they're making a shitty movie out of)
rurouni kenshin
seirei no moribito
everything GITS
an old one I can't remember the name of
and samurai champloo was good. as was deathnote. and anything by hizao miyazaki, but those are films.
edit: shit I forgot shin-chan. </3
-
Rank 5: Hungry Heart, cause i like football and i used to suck before too but i made the capn of my school team eventually and stayed that way till the end of school! so its just the similarities that get to me!
Rank 4: Speed Racer, lol you just cant beat that old school classic!
Rank 3: Bleach, started watching recently and so far it ROCKS
Rank 2: Wolfs Rain, Just love the dark and foreboding atmosphere and the struggle for freedom kinda theme! also the song!
Rank 1:!!!!!!!!!!!DBZ!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
#5 - Grave of the Fireflies: Quite possibly the most emotionally devastating film ever made, I kid you not.
I've heard the effect is similar to watching Schindler's List, but I've not seen the latter, so I can't really comment first-hand.
I cried for the last 10-15 minutes of this film, through the entire credits and for 10-15 minutes afterward.
#4 - Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion: Excellent thrill-ride from start to finish. If you don't like plot-twists being thrown left, right and center, steer clear. If you enjoy a good Xanatos Roulette, you'll probably like this.
#3 - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Another great thrill-ride, but in a more down-to-earth setting of 1983 Hinamizawa. There are crowning moments of awesome in just about every arc, and then when the big reveal finally comes in the 2nd last arc of the 2nd series, it's one of those completely unexpected reveals. Great show, but you do have to perservere when you hit the inevitable 'WTF is this shit' moments on the way. This show is like a jigsaw puzzle slowly being pieced together. You can't see the whole picture until it's almost finished.
#2 - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: What can I say. This anime is the shit. Eccentric high-schoolers, a bibliophilic alien, a time travelling dojikko and an ESPer that could pass for gay all held together by one of the great snarkers of the animation medium, Kyon. I will say this: Watch it.
*drumroll*
#1 - Fullmetal Alchemist: Now, I know I'm probably going to get flamed for ranking this as #1 when it is, admittedly, plagued by fanboyism and by some standards, somewhat melodrammatic in parts. However, I would argue that its ability to deliver a punchy, witty and humorous story and at the same time deliver some of the greatest impacts I've seen in an anime, such as [span style=\'color:#000000;background:#000000\']Hughes' death and Nina's end[/span], alongside its technical achievement (it was brilliantly animated for its time) ranks it as the greatest anime I have ever seen. It clocks in a bit long at around 50 episodes, but it is one of only two series that was able to keep my attention for a full 50 episodes (Higurashi being the other, which was technically two series).
-
1)Gundam seed/Gundam seed destiny.
2)Ghost in the Shell:SaC/Ghost in the Shell:SaC second gig.
3)Robotech-all seasons.
4)Vandread
5)Gundam Wing.
-
mmmm robotech

I think it deserves praise. It'd be one of my favorites if not for the ending, Though Brotherhood will fix that little issue. It's been way better than the original series so far.
-
The movie fixes the ending.
Brotherhood sort of messed up the FMA name.

I hate Brotherhood with a passion due to their [span style=\'color:#000000;background:#000000\']mangling of Hughes' death scene[/span]. Both the manga and the original anime did it so much better.
The movie fixes the ending.
Somewhat. I was less impressed with the movie than with the series.
Brotherhood sort of messed up the FMA name.
This, for the reason I mentioned above.

Go watch Code Geass then.
-
really complicated plots seem unrealistic to me re:CG, but it was ok, had some interesting characters and moral dilemmas. of course when you're trying to control everything and are in position to, things do get complicated.
sometime I need to watch the japanese version of neon genesis evolution
-
May hve tp get that one. Thay hate Blighty as much as I do.
-

Wait. WHAT.
You do understand that Brotherhood follows the manga, right? The actual, canon, sotryline? I can understand if you simply don't like it, but what you're saying here is quite impossible.
-

Okay, you have a valid point, though I don't much agree with it.

To each their own. We all have different preferences, tastes, and opinions. It's all good.

Indeed
Its so annoying when people forget that!

It's quite possible to 'follow' the original canon material and still screw it. See the afformentioned [span style=\'color:#000000;background:#000000\']Hughes death scene[/span].

someone should link [span style=\'color:#000000;background:#000000\']ruin my joke will you[/span]

someone should link Hu-gets shot-
*spoiler*
-
[span style=\'color:#000000;background:#000000\']aren't these girls noobish[/span]? that was a joke. you're the one who spoiled it. GJ
-
he actually gets shot? that was a joke. you're the one who spoiled it. GJ
Yes. [span style=\'color:#000000;background:#000000\']Envy shoots him. That wasn't what annoyed me about the Brotherhood take on it.
It was specifically his last words, which were changed from "Sorry, but I've got a wife and child to go home to", said before he was shot, before Envy even changed into Gracia's form to shoot him, to "Ugh, *splutter* damn... you *splutter*" after he was shot and dying on the ground.
For the record, the Manga's version had the former as Hughes' last words, not the latter.[/span]

-
1. Junjo Romantica
2. Code Geass
3. Mobile Suit Gundam
4. Gravitation
5. Neon Genesis Evangelion
Funny how your number one would be a story of gay love.
-
I guess its true...everyone does love a good love story, even if it is odd according to society.
-
see also lord of the rings
-
couldn't make a list in any particular order samurai champloo, soul eater, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, gantz, basilisk, fruits basket, black lagoon, desert punk, (DBZ/yu yu hakusho/inuyasha), and the list goes on lol
samurai champloo
funny and has lots of violence
bleach
love the show wish it didn't have to much f%&%ing filler tho
soul eater
very funny , lots of fans service
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni
scariest anime i have ever seen. it switches from a happy go lucky anime (fruits basket for the most part) to scary psychological/ mystery one very quickly. i like the psychological and mystery aspects of this anime
-
I hate fan service and here's why: it's just cockteasery. there's enough of that in the world that happens on accident. I don't need more non-fapworthy smecksiness in my life. either it be full on hentai or stfu.
-
1. Junjo Romantica
2. Code Geass
3. Mobile Suit Gundam
4. Gravitation
5. Neon Genesis Evangelion
Funny how your number one would be a story of gay love.
All of those five are essentially stories of gay love.
-

That actually made sense.
-
1. Kino's Journey
2. Time of Eve
3. Ergo Proxy
4. MS Zeta Gundam
5. Utena <3
-
5.) Sensitive Pornograph - ........ I like me teh guyz. >_>
4.) Neon Genesis Evangelion - Loved it. Really intense story-line, really gripping plot. Decent artwork for the most part, though I find that people who draw in that style don't always end up burritos me entirely satisfied. This time it worked though. I feel like this one would have ranked higher if not for the fucked-up ending that left me wondering if perhaps the creators had just dug themselves such a huge plot-hole that they couldn't get out and just threw together an acid-trip end.
3.) Tales of Phantasia OVA - Not only did I love the game (Thank GOD for fan-subs... I would have killed myself if I had to play that game on my GBA!), but the OVA was extremely well done. Loved every minute of it, great artwork, great story, great EVERYTHING.
2.) Ouran Highschool Host Club - Any show that actively makes fun of its viewers is bound to rank highly in my book. It's essentially the ultimate roast of anime fangirls. Yet somehow it managed to also have great artwork, great voice acting, and a pretty decent (though often times somewhat strange) plot. Loved this show with all my heart. Cosplayed as Tamaki last year at Anime Boston '09. Fantastic times indeed. The fangirls all loved how I was more than willing to supply them with some Tamaki/Kyoya fanservice whenever a Kyoya happened to walk by...
1.) Ai No Kusabi - ............................................ I REALLY like me teh guyz. >_>
-
lol gay gay is gay
-
-
I don't really watch anime. I spend all my time watching the military channel and futurama.
-
futurama was good for a while but for some reason I have a low tolerance for reruns
-
best ever
1. Beck
2. Tri Gun
3. Sammurai Champloo
4. GTO
5. Deathnote
-
futurama was good for a while but for some reason I have a low tolerance for reruns
WE DEMAND MORE EPISODES!
The new movies can only do so much!
-
I haven't watched many animes all the way through the end, but
1. Death Note
2. Hellsing <3
Cowboy Bebop was <___< I liked it after I was guilt tripped to watch. It was eh. Not my type. I want to watch Blood+ though and I was told trigun was alright. I vaguely remember Black Lagoon and I think I should re-try that one as well.

I'm a little late to the thread, oh well no matter
Top 5 (no particular order)
Orguss 02
Serial Experiments Lain
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's
Kanon (2006)
Clannad
Honorable mention to Gundam 00
I've haven't yet, but plan to watch Clannad After Story and Higurashi, so a couple on that list might get knocked off.
-
i have never even heard of...any of those, cept gundam...do i suck now?

Serial Experiments Lain really f*cked up my brain, but in a good way.
And I was disappointed I couldnt squeeze Nanoha in my Top 5. Me is sad now :'(
-

Well, you're forgiven for the first two, seeing as I own VHS copies of both of them, they could be considered a bit dated.
As for Kanon or Clannad, pick one, go out and bootleg it or something, they're good (Just make sure it's Kanon 2006, Kanon 2002 is just not as good) -
Oh, bring tissues, trust me on this.
As for Nanoha, it's probably the best magical girl series there is. Now you may be thinking, Magical girl series?, how good can that be.
Well, judge for yourself: linky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFxFhxrfBzQ)
-
well nanoha's good but theres just something wrong with seeing those super cool powers and shit executed b girls whos nipples bulge through their armor...makes more sense with guys fighting or maybe im just a bit of a male chauvinist when it comes to anime or even movies...
-

...eh...how?
-
Botton line, Nanoha rocks, and she will kill you when you're sleeping. Shes just that awesome.
-
you are girls...i am a male chauvinist...go figure
-
there's a difference between thinking women in general are weak, and simply being unable to take two-legged boob displays obviously created for males to fantasize about seriously (like wonder woman, and all other female superheroes who wear skimpy outfits, and female RPG characters wearing bikini armor). unfortunately because sex sells, almost no one tries to make completely serious female characters that aren't somewhat based on sex appeal.

die grammar nazi DIE!
women are weak, unless you're reoga (please dont throw a grenade at me)
EDIT: also chauvinism is not thinking the opposite sex is weak in every way, its thinking that your sex is superior in a particular way and i have not used it generally you fail grammar nazi, i said im a male chauvinist when it comes to action oriented ANIME. And i am.
