Title: Song of the Day
Post by: Skulryk on August 16, 2009, 08:35:15 pm
So... I made an off-handed comment to Arsenal about how we should have a Song of the Day thread on IRC... and it was determined that there should actually be one.

So like... yeah. Now there WILL be one. Fux yeah.

And Arsenal ALSO suggested the first song... so like... here it is. >_>

Parkway Drive - "Idols and Anchors"

I for one think they sound very angry.

I really don't like the vocals in Parkway Drive. =/

Or any vocals that sound like that, really.

Also this topic is claimed by Untelligent in the name of BISMUTH, the most badass of all nonradioactive metals. Lithium can go fuck itself.

Kiuas, finnish metal band. Wikipedia claims it to be heavy metal with influences from other metal subgenres, particularily folk metal, thrash metal, and power metal (don't punch me, they're not that bad).

I like their vocals. Lyrics can be a bit generic, though. Maybe because they're finnish.

"Don't Stop me Now" - Queen.

One of the most fun songs I've ever heard. Very fun to drive to. Totally got pulled over once in a speed-trap while listening to this. But still, an epic song, featuring a very sexy Freddie at his finest.

Good shit.  Never heard of them before, I but I like it.  The unintelligible lyrics is always what turned me away from black/death metal.  Need to find a good torrent.

Welcome back, it's Joe Schmoe at 108.1 The Cactus, KRIA, your number one intercontinental FM radio station. This next song is Birdhouse In Your Soul, by the amazing alternative rock duo, They Might Be Giants. We're gonna be playing this song over and over again for twenty-four hours straight with no commercial breaks, so sit back and enjoy the ride.

I'd vote for Rocket Queen.  The whole album is pretty awesome.  But, since most of you were not born when this came out, I don't expect you to appreciate it.

God I LOVE Rammstein. Their music just drips sex from every orifice. My personal favorite of theirs is "Alleluia."

But my song of the day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRbv4O65vBo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRbv4O65vBo)

I'd never heard of this song until a few days ago when I discovered a new hobby: Browsing through NuclearBlast's youtube offerings. I'd never even heard of PAIN before this... went and listened to some more of their stuff. It was hawt.

Pfft. I've only encountered four bands I like that started after I was born: Kiuas, Turisas, Rammstein, and Disturbed.

There's a little nagging thought in the back of my head that says "You forgot one, dumbass," but it's not telling me which one it is. =/

On a completely unrelated note, I got started on Rammstein because my German teacher would play various songs by German bands during worktime in class, Rammstein included. My German teacher was awesome.

Has nothing to do with what you like.  The appreciation for the music has as much to do with context.  If you head GnR now, and compare it to what is out there now, you will have a far different reaction to it than if you heard this album in 1987.  Great bands will always be great.  But pioneers can only be judged in their own time.

As I will be heading off to school soon, I will no longer be able to stay up late enough to do this (and besides, I'm running out of good bands I know). Therefore, it is very likely this will be my last one.

I was going to post a song by my all-time favorite band, Iron Maiden, but I thought better of it and decided on this one instead.

I like early Guns N' Roses, but I hate Rocket Queen. =/

It's dark and it took me like ten tries to find the = button right then.

Ah, there was either a song from a band or a band with a song I was thinking of for this topic yesterday, but now I can't remember it. Wasn't metal. Ah... was late 80s or early 90s... Wasn't They Might be Giants, already posted that ban- wait yeah I remember now.

Wait, no, that song sucks. Nevermind. I'll post this one instead.

During this past week I have been trying to play songs that have not been released as singles as many people only know singles even though many other good songs are on the album. If you don't like the song it doesn't mean it's crap. It seems some of you need to learn your opinion isn't always right. My opinion is not always right and although I don't like all the music you gentlemen have been posting, you don't see me complaining, do you? So please, can we have some respect on this forum? Perhaps be a little politer, like "I don't like that song, but this song is pretty awesome."
Anyway, here's the song of the day. What many people consider the only good song by The Strokes. I'd have to agree it is the best.

Don't go all high an mighty on me.  You started posting this music in direct response to people complaining about the amount of metal in this thread.  Except the only problems is, most of what was posted we not metal.  But when you keep posting this soulless tonicpy Jonas Bros type trash that rock has degenerated to, it's no wonder teen suicide rates are up.

I have a simple solution for you, Jenne. If you don't like the music I've been posting, don't come to this forum and listen to your music. I will continue to post music I enjoy and try to spread different genres of music people have perhaps not considered.

I apologize but I have not thoroughly researched the musical preferences of every RIA member that visits this forum and therefor cannot post a song everyday that pleases everyone. Since you know your own musical preference, I suggest you simply listen to the music on your computer that you have obtained or look up songs you enjoy on YouTube. It seems to me that going somewhere just to complain does no good for anyone.

Not really a Beatles fan, but they do have some great songs.  Sadly for them, the covers are usually better.

Guns n Roses - Live and Let Die (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAxfiH1nnDs)
Aerosmith - Come Together (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo4GJ6YdDeY)
Type O Negative - Back in the USSR (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iScYtBqV_w8) - They do a good cover of Day Tripper as well.

There is just something about the Gorillaz that I just don't get.  I don't know why it confuses me so, but it does.  It may have something to do with the cartoon videos.  It's not bad music.  I just don't know how to classify it.  It's like Dr. Dre buttfucked Weezer, and had an asshole child.

The thing about music is that you don't NEED to classify it to anything. I find that "One of the few good 'bands' that rap a lot" works pretty well.

All you need to know is good/bad.

i like Hey Jude by the Beatles...well actually der only song i like....the first 4 minutes, not the last thousand NANANANANANANANANANANANANANA's

VIDEO (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD3ovfZXO5Q): i personally liked this better cause its a live performance and they sang it a bit differently then the recorded version, cool to see the people around them singing widem, also ders a sardar in der!

The Song With Lyrics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUb8_DLsIyM&feature=related): studio version, but sounds a bit distorted, just a bit.

LOVE Album version, shorter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75Em8SB7PFA): just the song, i prefer the longer version though i couldn't find it (didn't really break my back searching) you should find it easily if you wanna hear it!

Hey Jude, but not Beatles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dfWropSoU0&feature=related): a different take on hey Jude and just 2 min so do check it out!

And if you live anywhere in NY and listen to any radio station that plays rock I'm sure you've heard Panic Switch which is eh.

I've been listening to way, way too much Dio era black sabbath than any human should but I've been on a kick for about a month now. Its pretty amazing how quick they can switch gears with him. One album will be upbeat and riff based, the next slow and doom-y. Really versatile guy/band obviously. Yes I know there's already a song today picked by Loren, I thought I'd round it out with something from my catalog...

If I had to pick one song from them:

Oh crap, I didn't know it was just one song a day. I kinda skimmed and took it as "Post awesome music you think should be shared with others." C-Zom I'm listening to the song, I love the guy's voice and guitar so far is awesome. The bass makes me sad though.

I would KILL to see Silversun Pickups, omgosh. They're like my new Foo Fighters.

I don't know why but I really like Trent Reznor. I think he's just a really cool modern musician who's seriously talented and creative, but probably really grumpy since he's by himself so much. :NIN Fan:

Never heard of Clay People though, listening to Awake in 52 seconds

His voice is pretty sweet, he can switch gears from pissed to sad in a second. And that riff rules: Iommi is the man when it comes to catchy riffs. As for the bass, its unusual to see a bass be the main instrument. Its a sad bass line, but fits through the song.

And you know I love me some Silversun Pickups. They were playing in north NJ recently but I didn't have the damn 60 dollars for each ticket to see em.

I thought it was cool how you could hear the bass for once, let alone have something to say about it. IN the end half of the song it changes up a bit, so really no complaints. I'd download it, but... siiiigh. I buy music now.

Post by: C-zom on October 30, 2009, 03:59:21 pm
Yeah, it changes gears at the end. It gets really upbeat and then settles down to a pretty cool acoustic ballad thing with Dio humming. I saw this song live and they extended it to twenty six minutes. Man, that was an experience.

Well, I would have told you but your poo poo computer exploded. :<

Twenty six minutes... wooah. Black Crowes did that with  3 songs when I saw them so a good part of that conert was just them all jamming around but it was awesome. And loud. Very loud.

They were so good, you had the singer on harmonica for half the time and he'd be trying to outdo his brother on guitar and then the two guitarists would be trying to out do the other and the drummer was insane and it was the best show I've been to in a long time.

I'm gonna go ahead and post another song on here. I probably posted it before, but oh well. Acid Bath is an extremely versatile band and this particular acoustic-only song is one of the creepiest, yet most calming, songs I've heard. At around 1:42 it becomes one of my favorite vocal songs from them, or in the genre in general. Its worth double posting.

Clay People - Awake was alright.  Not bad but I didn't find it to be awesome. I've to be in a certain kind of mood to be into that kind of music though.

Pre- 1:42 it sounds very dismal, can't hear the words too well since I've to have the music low, mom's asleep. I like the effect on his voice, reminds me of Manson.

Yeah, I was not a huge fan.  Awake was a pretty good angry song.  I went to school around Albany, where they are from, so they were on the radio alot.  I saw them open for Type O about 10 years ago.  I only have that album.  I have tried to download some of their other stuff, but it's kinda hard to find.  That and I have not tried very hard.
