The only way to prove a statement like this is to see if the reverse is also true.   Does 1 = 00?  Not really, with some exceptions.

The guy who told me it has a masters in math. He didn't explain how it worked though.

It says "math error" when I put it in my calculator, but if you google 0^0 it says it's equal to 1.

That is because x0 will always equal one. So it does not matter if x is zero or three, it will equal one.
