Oh and what's an ale and should I have it?

the short answer is yes.

the long answer is that ale is a kind of beer. there are 2 kinds of beer: ale and lager. lager is prepared in a way that limits the flavor and makes it very mild and light in color. usually when you think beer, like miller or budweiser or michelob or red stripe, you're thinking of a lager.

ales are prepared the old fashioned way and are waaay more flavorful, and tend to be more colorful too. there is a wiiide array of flavors when it comes to ales.

My personal beer of choice is pretty much any kind of IPA (India Pale Ale, for those who don't know).  I actually didn't know what to do last night when my usual bar didn't have Rampant IPA on tap any more.  I generally go for high-alcohol beers; most of them just taste good to me.  Anchor Steam is pretty good, I was introduced to that one by my boss. Smithwick's is good, Fat Tire is good, most things by Hofbrauer are good...  Yeah I really like beer, I could keep naming kinds I like but that seems unnecessary.

I can't drink straight liquor like I did when I was a freshman or a sophomore in college.  I kinda pounded my body's acceptance of those into the ground by drinking too much.  I still drink too much, but now I do it with mixed drinks.  I'm a big fan of rum and Coke, especially if I want to get really fucked up: mix two shots of Kraken spiced rum with a can of coke, repeat as needed.  If I drink vodka it's in a screwdriver.  Jameson and ginger ale is really good.  Long Island iced teas can be good, but only if you've got a really good bartender, otherwise they can taste like death in a glass.

I just recently heard about Kraken and loved the name, thought I would try it.

When I don't feel like being a cheap bastard, I can dig on some dark beers. Bell's Porter being a personal favorite.

Might have to try me some ale as well... seems to be right up my alley.

Also a good aged, single malt Scotch over a nasty black cigar works wonders for the soul.

  I smoke Montecristo No. 4s and occasionally a Cohiba.  Life is good for a cigar smoker outside of the US...  And anything is great with Balvenie, including fucking your neighbor's dog in the ass.
