Random lnsanity / Smallest Planet
« on: June 22, 2011, 08:43:13 am »
The other day I saw a piece ont he web about new photos of the solar system's smallest planet, and they were pictures of Mercury.

While I am a staunch supported of the Astronomical Union, and have gone along with Pluto's demotion to a minor planet a few years ago, this piece (from APOD I believe), kind of bothered me.

What the AU (clever name - abbreviates to the same as Astronomical Units lol) really did in its demotion of Pluto was create 2 classifications of planets, when previously there was only one.  So, the smallest planet should still be Pluto, and the smallest major planet should be Mercury.  Incidentally, the largest minor planet should also be Pluto...

Anyhow, If the AU has bestowed upon itself the lofty ambition of cataloguing the heavens, and occasionally re-organizing it, shouldn't they demonstrate a certain diligence in ensuring that this kinf of re-segmentation is properly branded and well communicated?  Otherwise they are really just sowing confusion rather than bringing clarity to their field.

Some steps they could take to execute:

- Ensure the terms "major planet" and "minor planet" are googleable in terms of updated search engine criteria, globally (unless their authority does not extend to every nation of this planet, in which case the move would be extraterritorial in nature).
- Burn all astronomy books written before their "Pluto Judgement" if I can be permitted to cap & quote the term.
- Organize anti-heresy squads to stamp out the notion that Pluto can still be counted among the major planets.
- Bring the relevance of this move to the people by selling them on the benefits of taking Pluto down a notch and creating a whole new class of planets.

All to say, Pluto does not seem to getting a fair shake, and by liberally thoring the term planet around, the entire solar system is suffering and each planet's individual contribution and message is being diluted.

Am I alone here?  *crickets*

Random lnsanity / Goodyear Blimp crash
« on: June 15, 2011, 04:59:49 am »
Rough deal - the blimp apparently hit the ground hard on landing , causing a fuel leak and fire, so the pilot told passengers to jump out at 6 ft altitude.  Being a blimp, the loss of 600lbs of payload sent it soaring into the air, where the pilot burned to death at 150ft in the air.  Apparently he could be heard screaming until he could no more.

http://photogallery.thestar.com/1007452

This caught my eye because at first I thought the Goodyear "safety" thing was torn to pieces by this accident.  But when I saw that the pilot saved his passengers, and stayed with his ship instead of jumping out himself (probably in an effort to save lives on the ground), only to die a fiery death, I could only think of the pilot as a hero.  I can't say for sure I would have done the same thing...

Random lnsanity / New Movie Rating System
« on: June 14, 2011, 09:38:23 am »
Every so often (about once a month), my brother and I take a friday afternoon off and go drinking.  Something in our Irish, Chinese, Lebanese, Scandinavian, Congolese, Doberman, Indonesian genes triggered the common thought that this is a good idea.  So we made a tradition, in our parlance, of heading down to Hurley's, eating a lousy british lunch, and then strapping on a pair of barstools and shutting the place down.

This has led to a fair amount of banter on a variety of subjects, the most recent of which has been to establish a universal movie rating system that accurately categorizes the subjects into 'worth watching' & not.

In the interests of bringing this system into the light of day and improving the lives of our co-inhabitants of this fair planet, I offer the system forthwith:

Movies can have up to 5 stars.  1 star awarded for each of the following:

- features hot chick(s)
- is set in space
- features a nuclear explosion
- features large lizards and/or robots
- is set in a post-apocolyptic environment
- features an F-22
- the main character has fewer than 50 words of dialogue in the movie

1 movie can have 6 stars, and one movie can have 7 stars, with the only caveat that they must stick to the above minimum requirements.

Once scored, you can subtract stars arbitrarily based on the actual performance, but must also subtract 1 star for the following:

- zombies / living dead
- Excessive gore (unless it is funny like The Fly or Watchmen)
- dismembered children (unless the scene is so horrific it can be blocked from memory like Watchmen)

If we disagree on the rating of a movie, it can only be settled on the field of battle.  We have settled most disagreements with chess, but have more than once escalated this into public shouting matches in which the objective is to have the other side back down in embarassement before you do.  Being somewhat shameless, this shouting can and does go on for up to an hour, and we have been asked to leave Hurley's twice despite our substantial spend.

We have perfected this as much as we are able, and I hereby open the floor to solicit further input and/or admiration.

Random lnsanity / Has anyone ever seen a movie called 'Star Wars'?

Random lnsanity / If you could clone yourself...
« on: May 12, 2011, 10:17:28 am »
Would you have sex with yourself?  Would that make you gay?  Or is it masturbation?

I only ask because I have always wondered how awesome it must be to do me.  The closest I have ever gotten is to jerk off in a mirror.

I have to say it was awesome, mostly because I make awesome fuck-faces.  I also crack some pretty good jokes while I am "doing the deed", and couldn't help but laugh during the tender act of self-love.  I hoped I didn't offend myself by cracking up, but I was wrapped up in the moment and caught myself off guard.  I like me with a good sense of humour - it is so important.  I also found myself to be a generous and attentive lover, willing and able to keep the horses in the stable until I was satisfied.

But there was something missing, and have not dated myself with the mirror since that torrid night.  I feel like there could be someme better out there.  But my god was I hot.

Random lnsanity / Automated BJ machine right around the corner

This is awesome - the potential is HUGE.  Imagine the possibilities - forget kissing, this could be revolutionary to the porn industry.

I know I want one, and am pretty sure that Leobound Mango would go for one too.  Think about it - you could 'save' the perfect BJ from Gangs' mom and play it over and over again without having to resort to the paper bag.

Random lnsanity / How would you like to be cleverly insulted?
« on: April 14, 2011, 04:44:40 am »
I have waited long for a rating from C-Zom, to no avail.  I have even challenged him to debate, but he does not show.

So I offer an alternative to the C-Zom rating - a personalized, and clever insult.  I don't intend to just go around calling everyone a fag or an idiot, or any of the 2 combinations of those words.  I mean something personal and hurtful - I want to make you cry home to mommy and tell her that Grilledslug is mean.

Feel free to request your insult here, and I would appreciate being insulted by you as a way of initiating the transaction.  Satisfaction guaranteed.

Random lnsanity / Time to stop bombing Libya
« on: April 08, 2011, 07:08:50 am »
Surely those bombs could be more effectively used elsewhere, like in North Korea or Italy.

At this point, there aren't even any cool pictures showing up on the news - you know, the kind with big fireballs, and limbs and torsos flying around in all directions.  Although I have a strong preference for photos and reel of airstrikes, at this point I would settle for just one of a mass grave with a heart-wrenching caption about an entire town being wiped out willy-nilly.  Alas, it won't happen, because we don't have troops on the ground, so it is time to move on in search of better footage in someone else's backyard.

I will begin to action this de-escalation with NATO leadership next week, and search for a target and coalition shortly.  Any nominations?  Who can we righteously bomb for the benefit of a media spectacle?

Random lnsanity / C-Zom vs. Grilledslug
« on: March 28, 2011, 09:31:25 am »
Challenge to debate any subject.

Format as follows:

As the noobier of the 2, Grilledslug will spaek first.

Then C-Zom.

Then 1 rebuttal from me, and one from C-Zom.

Then open the floor to commentary and analysis.

I would consider it an honour if C-Zom would accept this challenge, but he doesn't have to if he is a coward.

Random lnsanity / Time to bomb Libya
« on: March 02, 2011, 11:02:58 am »
Where is Reagan when you need him - that man was ahead of his time.  Too bad his son didn't make President, because we could have the makings of Libyan War II.

It took a father and son team to take out Saddam, so where can we find a Reagan to bomb the shit out of Libya?

Someone ought to remind the Republicans that there is oil there too, and go for a Middle East/North Africa hat trick.

I am a little unclear about the expressions trolling, burritos...etc.  Is there a glossary?

For now, I will use chimichanga in the same context, assuming it does not offend anyone unduly.
