Title: screw special interest boards I'm not clicking through that mess
Post by: Fake from State Jarm on March 29, 2016, 10:52:03 am
guys I need new RAM

my computer was acting terribly over february, I tried pulling the RAM and with one of them out, it is acting completely normal. which is a relief in a sense.

but still I need new RAM -- just general recommendations are good, or specifically, what not to buy, I will make sure I don't buy it.

edit: I think I'm also going to reinstall windows 7 just to get rid of all these games and mods that piled up which I mostly never ever played. 100's of gigs

RAM is so cheap nowadays this really shouldn't require much thought. Get the fastest ram your motherboard can support and get as much as you can.

And yeah I would prioritize speed over the amount. Unless we are talking less than 4 gigs anyway.

I think I'd still rather have real fast shit anyway

I'll take it as a compliment

i use vengeance.

right, that's what I have now, 2 sticks of 4. One of them is permanently retired now. I wonder if I can find 2 more just like it and make it 12

where do you find your motherboard's limit on RAM speed?

I'd just look up the model number of whatever you got and check out the RAM specifications

At the very least post the model number here

I tried that already and I'm not sure it worked, but now I have about 5 searchbars and my browser is super fast and good at letting me know when my computer needs to be cleaned. It even has a speedometer on it now.

hi leo.

Come on let's put content on here what's the deal why aren't you posting your model number

Do you not know what it is

ok fine the model is MSI NF980-G65

and the memory standard is DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600/1800/2133 (OC)

I assume the OC only applies to 2133

hm...idk how much money you have or are willing to shell out, but a level above corsair would be gskill i guess. Its not widely available here so i've always bought corsair.
Also, you don't want anything oc. I don't take risks with overclocking like that.
Anyway, if you're looking to keep the ram you have and just add on to it, then you're going to have to check which one of those numbers your current ram has, and get more of the same. Like if you have 1600 mhz, get more 1600 mgz ram.
Otherwise get rid of  your current ram and just buy a high end ram kit of the highest available speed, 2133?

I think 2133 is overclocked and 1800 is the highest speed without overclocking

what's your budget?

Also, i take it you want high end gaming which would include vr now i guess?

I know I am coming to the party a little late, but you should totally get memory with heat pipes on it. Not sure if it improves heat dissipation, but they act as awesome handles. Not kidding - it's a treat.

Anyhow, off to destroy what's left of my dignity in P&W...
