I mean, Montana has a population of 1 million people but it gets 3 votes, whilst California has like 38 million people and gets 55 votes (approx 1.5 votes per million people). It means that living in California means your vote is worth half what it is worth in Montana.
Not to mention that some states are so safe that voting in them is seemingly pointless. A democrat vote in Ohio is worth an infinite amount more than a democrat vote in New York.
Shame to you unlucky bastards who aren't worth much. :spot:

Maybe one day the US will learn how to design an electoral system.

Your math is wrong, Arsy. Californians are worth 2/3rds of Montanians.
-
this is why I don't vote. maybe if my vote was worth more I'd feel worse about not voting. #firstworldproblems #OutsourcingResponsibility #TruthJustice&theAmericanWay

Oh, are my population figures wrong? I got them off the BBC.Maybe one day the US will learn how to design an electoral system.
They should just copy us.

I guess if the US went with a population majority vote, the Republican party would never stand a chance. Not that that would be a bad thing mind you. >_>

Yes, although we copied the Germans.

God Save the Queen.

Well, if there is one thing to say about the Germans, it's that they know how to build something as efficient as possible.
-
If there is one thing I can say about Germans, it's that they know how to lose wars.

No, your math is wrong, I used your population figures.

Electoral system is outdated, but the number of votes a state isn't the only problem.
Imagine if Gary Johnson or another independent candidate grabbed a large amount of electoral votes this election. Enough to stop the Republican and Democrat candidate from getting 270 electoral votes.
Do you know what happens at that point?
The decision is placed in the hands of the
House of Representatives

You'll have to explain it to me. I don't see it.

Leo, your math is wrong. It is about half.

Yeah, my bad. I just realized I had the numbers flipped. Was doing 1:1.5
Damn you and your failure to sustain order when explaining your numbers, Arse!
-
Actually all the math is wrong here. About 60% of voters vote for the same party year after year. In fact, they would be happier with some sort of dictatorship, as long as their party was always in control. So the election itself is decided by the remaining 40% of registered voters who actually take the time to cast their vote - this is about 5-10% of the total adult population. So, effectively, the multipliers are much higher...
-
Considering that only about 30% of registered voters actually vote, the election is not about who people think it right. It's about who is pissed off enough to actually go to the polls to vote.

That may be true, but the votes all still count in this scenario and are equally important.

It is the electoral equivalent of a military coup every 4 years. But there are defenders - people who are happy enough with the incumbent to vote for him again. The key word here is "him" - none of this perverse UK shit about electing a woman into office. Praise be the glass ceiling.

What the hell does that even mean, man? Your math is fucked up!
