Title: Disney buys LucasFilm; Star Wars Episodes 7 targetted for 2015
Post by: Shadow on October 30, 2012, 07:12:39 pm
http://blogs.disney.com/movies/2012/10/30/disney-acquires-lucasfilm-ltd/ (http://blogs.disney.com/movies/2012/10/30/disney-acquires-lucasfilm-ltd/)

Episodes 8 and 9 to follow 7 and then further new movies every 2-3 years after the new trilogy.

 :holyshit:

Not sure if bad or good. Should be amusing at least.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the new movies will be terrible.

Well, I had heard before that Lucas had screenplays for a trilogy that would take place after the original. If Disney got those as part of the deal, it might not be so bad. The idea to do more movies after those though, that could end up very badly, though with the expanded universe, there's a lot of material to work with.

Ditto.  I only read it when it was quoted next to TS' avatar.

Disney will find a way to make it suck.

Agreed.  I bet it will end with the Dark & Light sides of the Force getting along, putting aside their differences as they find they have more in common with each other.  Things like:

- they both like lightsabers
- have a fondness of large ships
- get a kick out of dressing dramatically
- have some fugly sidekicks
- have a deep love of violence as a way to settle issues

how could anything be worse than the first 3? frankly I'm glad someone got it out of lucas' grubby fingers. all you have to do is watch Red Tails to see this man is a writing/directing disaster. he thinks up some cool scifi things, that is the sum total of his usefulness.

Like their child stars after they turn 18? Get it, cause they're whores?

The first one of the first three was okay. The other two I didn't like though.

maybe after disney re-ruins it, they will pass it off to someone who remembers the first ones fondly and actually cares, and we could get some decent remakes in 10 or 20 years. point is, the further away from lucas it is, the better.

Look on the bright side, Lucas will probably be dead by then.

Hey, bullshit.  They were all great.  Could have done without Jar-Jar Binks though.  I think he should have pursued a film opportunity with Wesley Crusher, which noone would watch, and netted an improvement to both franchises.

it had some of the worst lines in cinematic history. horrible shallow character development. the entire romance was infantile, deluded, and unrelatable. this gem of a scene for example

Anakin Skywalker: You are so... beautiful.
Padmé: It's only because I'm so in love.
Anakin Skywalker: No, it's because I'm so in love with you.
Padmé: So love has blinded you?
Anakin Skywalker: [laughs] Well, that's not exactly what I meant.
Padmé: But it's probably true.

also the part where he force chokes the woman he supposedly went to the dark side for.

"Anakin, You're Breaking My Heart" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSN9Hc0Y_2U#ws)

but yeah they are all great, great for trolling people who know they aren't.

Obviously you have never been in love.  I have wanted to choke every girl I have been in love with. One even asked me to.  In retrospect, maybe we should have gone with a 'safe sign' instead.

yeah come to think of it, that's the main appeal of the so-called dark side. jedi are all virgins, whereas sith can use force powers in bed.

Also, they get to nail Natalie Portman.  Fuck the light side.

that doesn't really hold true; she never would have gone for a sith. of course she couldn't have been with a legit jedi either; she specifically fell for a 'falling' jedi.

you know what. they should have kept her character alive. she could have been the most interesting one of them all. what would she have done with her political career after that? what would have caused her to put luke up for adoption and perhaps keep leia? what sort of CockPony would play out between her and the sith emperor's new apprentice? would they have continued to keep the relationship a secret while they overtook the senate? would they have plotted to usurp the sith emperor and rule the sith themselves? lucas sucks because he doesn't understand that stories are about questions as much as answers.

edit: lol @ 'cockpony' filter

For all her purity and extraordinary hotness, she was as much a tragic hero as Aniken.  Her fatal flaw was her weakness for Ani, and the temptress had to die.  Had she restrained herself, the Universe would not have known the likes of Darth Vader.  The Dark side would have remained in the shadows.  In fact, you could argue that she was the ultimate Sith accomplice.

But in the same vein of unanswered questions, how would things have turned out if Ani and Obi abandoned the cloth and consummated their obviously queer relationship.  "That's good padu... oh sorry Ani, I know I shouldn't call you that anymore.  That's wonderful, Ani.  More to the left..."

How would Yoda's time in exile have turned out if, instead of being stranded in a swamp while the Dark Side took over, he got a job at a hand-pulled noodle bar on the lower east side?

And what if C3PO got a heart?
