For those of you on the minecraft server, this is whats going on with the nuclear setup:
PART ONE: first, the reactor will be constructed in a "bunker" made out of reinforced stone at least 20 blocks away from the town. The bunker will have reinforced doors, and will have a large amount of water covering the reactor.
The reactor will be a Mark-II reactor. It will run for roughly 3 hours, then cool for 90 minutes. During this time, it will generate 24,000,000 EU. ***NOTE*** So long as the reactor is run on this 3 hours on and 90 minutes off cycle, it will NEVER go critical, however, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you only add the initial ingredients for the reactor (I'll post a diagram later) once.
PART TWO: The reactor will have glass-fibre cable running out the bottom, then towards a nearby battery bank in the town (20 blocks from the reactor). This battery bank will contain 5 MSFUs. All the MSFU's will be daisy-chained together to hold a maximum of 50,000,000 EU. From here, glass-fibre cable can be laid to any locations that will require power from the reactor, just make sure to use transformers to convert it to the voltage you need
.
PART THREE: A building near the MSFUs will be constructed containing an additional MSFU as well as the Mass Fabricator and a box for spare scrap.
WARNING: IF YOU BLOW THIS THING UP I WILL NOT BUILD A NEW ONE.
I'll post a list of the required components and materials soon, but we will need at least a 20 diamonds, just for the MSFU battery bank.
*I'll update this each time I'm on minecraft and make progress*
**ALL RESOURCE AMOUNTS ARE IN DUST**
***If you produce a part, reply to this thread and I'll slash that requirement out***
****All parts will be stored in a box called NUCLEAR REACTOR PARTS, the box will probably be by my factory, it will be moved once I finish construction on the shielding area****
RESOURCES TO ACCOMPLISH PART 1 (all amounts are exaggerated by a small amount in case of mistakes and extras will be used for other parts of the construction process):
For the building of super-protection:
*working on the math*
For the reactor and components:
Iron Dust: 360
Tin Dust: 410
Copper Dust: 700
Uranium: 4
Lapis Lazuli: 60
Redstone: 160
Glowstone: 60
Rubber: 160
Stone: 8 THANKS TO AITHNE

20 diamonds... you said you have something we can run the mass fab off of for a short time right? may need to do that to get matter for 12 diamonds, i can cover the other 8.
got 1 MFE and parts to build the other 4. also have some of what we need to make the MFSE. running low on rubber and copper but the real issue is the diamonds.
-
I've spent a lot of time mining.. I think I can cover 20 diamonds pretty easily. XD
So you tell me what we need, I'll go look for it.
-
I've put the following in the box so far:
360 Iron Dust
410 Tin Dust
700 Copper Dust
4 Uranium
60 Lapis Lazuli
160 Rubber
8 Stone
20 Diamonds
(the only thing I don't have is glowstone)
And the only thing I actually had to go out and get was the rubber.
Do I get a cookie now?
-
I've got glowstone. I'll bring the stuff to my factory and process it into the correct pieces tonight.
-
So far, reactor and 2 additional chambers done. 4 more to go, then we are ready to proceed to assembly. If someone wants, find a good location for us. Kenny mentioned something about power-lines, so our range is pretty much unlimited (it just gets more expensive the farther we go)
-
the only thing im sure we still need in large supply is Lapis Lazuli, we need 250+ of it.
-
Reactor and Chambers are completed. Gonna work on the internal components now. AFter that, I'll bring back all the extra resources for use with the MFSU and fibre-optic lines.
Then, I'll finish the "model" reactor and start making reinforced stone. I'll need Iron, Tin, and tons of copper dust for that part.
-
I want to get minecraft just to spite you all moments before the reactor goes online for the first time.
-
All internal reactor components completed.
Our next big thing is to get a location that kenny approves...
-
Better hurry Leo, reactor will be online within the week probably.
-
need 5 lupis
-
Better hurry Leo, reactor will be online within the week probably.
That gives me six days to buy the game and one to hatch my plot.
-
finished the MFSE's.
-
Nice, so all we need to figure out where to put the damn thing, Kenny, Y U NO HAPPY WITH MY SUGGESTED PLACEMENT?
-
Pterrydactyl, give me more numbers of stuff to get so when minecraft's back up I can go hunting down specific thingies.
-
Won't know numbers till server is back up. We've got all the reactor components and internal parts finished, plus the MFSUs as far as I know. Next thing we need, is for kenny to approve a location so we know how many HV/Diamond cables we need.
-
Why not dig a hole in the desert and put it there?
-
because we have to use diamond cable, which is very expensive. Also, greater distance means more energy lost or additional MSFUS as capacitors before we reach an energy lost distance and then start again. Basically, it's the difference in diamond cost.
-
Middle of the mountains then?
-
I'm doing my best to find lots of diamonds. When the server is up, at least.
-
BTW, apparently, so many people have been playing technic without owning minecraft, that they are changing it so that you must own it to play apparently?
At least, thats the part that they said is wrong with the technic right now...
-
Maybe I'll just start playing by myself for a while.. that might just be easier.

GREAT NEWS!
I've done some tests with nukes, and I have found a design that can resist not only a single meltdown, but multiple meltdowns with NO damage to the outside area. I should have a definate count for how much reinforced stone we will need soon, but it might be over 1000.
To put that into perspective, to make 64 blocks, we need 12 iron dust, 9 tin dust, 9 copper dust, and 64 cobblestone.
That means, that to make 1000 blocks of reinforced stone, we need:
1000 cobblestone (or stone)
188 iron dust
141 tin dust
141 copper dust
Last i checked, I think I had 128. I'm guessing that 1128 should be either enough, or enough to give an estimate on how many more we need so that I can get a resource calculation.
Anyway, the design i wanna use is a little bigger than some, but is incredebly safe. So far, it had withstood multiple nuke detonations (in my SMP game), without a breach outside the walls or repairs inside. This setup should be more than safe enough to protect our town as well as provide the necessary power.
-
Great news, 1128 is WAY more than enough to build what we need!
I'm about to test what I'm calling the Cactaur Reactor MK I.
With all this stone, it should be able to take a full overload to the face and not breach anything outside. If it works, I'll be able to construct a reactor right next to the base without any threat.
-
SUCCESS. While the entire interior of the chamber was destroied, there was no damange to the surrounding area.
People, WE HAVE A DESIGN.

*contemplates how best to foil Apo's plot*

Oh God, Technic Pack. :horrified:
-
Well leo, considering the latest updates to technic, first you need to buy minecraft.
Also, I've made it so that even if the reactor is sabotaged, it shouldn't damage any part of the city unless extraordinary means are taken.

You win this time, old man, but rest assured, my vengeance hath no fury.

I shall sleep well tonight!
Also, started the framework for the reactor, need about 1k more reinforced stone and we are ready to bring it online. For safety reasons, I will not add the reactor till I've got enough stone to properly encase it.

Wait....aren't y'all playing on a server run out of Kenny's place?
-
yes, but we are using technic, which now validates minecraft accounts.

But you are dependent on Kenny and his server.....
heheheheh.
-
Eh, I play SP as well, but I don't need a nuclear reactor in SP because I have 4 solar arrays. I'm making the reactor for the challenge and to help the people on kennys server.

Here's a plot for you. Get Israel to bomb Kenny's place.

Reactor is now ONLINE.
It runs in 2 and a half-hour cycles when loaded with uranium with a 7minute cooldown. However, don't run it without checking with me first, especially if it's been running a few times, because parts might need periodic replacement.
My next project, is to finish the construction of a transformer station to convert it to usable power. After that, the sky is the limit!
-
explain this to me in simple/small words and set up the mass fab so i can start converting scrap
-
First, with the current setup, the reactor can run 15time on it's 2 hour 40 minute cycles (thats basically 30 hours) without cooldown. However, the base cooldown time is 7 minutes (multiplied for each consecutitive cycle, as in 3 cyckes = 8 hours runtin, 21 minute cooldown). During the cycle, it produces 22,000,000 EU at a rate of 105.1EU/t
The reactor produces energy, but the MSFUs put it out as HV (512eu/t). This would destroy most machines, so it needs to be converted down to LV for general use, however the MASSFAB uses 512EU/T, which is out current output.
So, to get the Massfab running, all we need is a permanent building you want it in. Then, we run Diamond Cable to it. However, the Massfab requires 1mil energy to produce 1 matter, so for each reactor cycle, it can run a maximum of 22 times. Also, the massfab requires 34 scrap to run at maximum efficiently, so to produce 22 matter efficiently, you need:
time: 2hours 40 minutes
Scrap: 748 scrap
energy: 22mil EU (roughly)
I suggest that if you want to run the massfab, you put uranium in the open slots in the reactor to replace the stock of the energy you will use.
For other energy uses, we need LV power, this will be accomplished by using 3 transformers to convert it:
HV->MV->LV It has to be constructed carefully, because a tiny slip and the whole thing explodes.
Is that simple enough, or should I try to make it easier to understand?

Why am I here...

because your weird.
