Not my last Street Fighter game, just probably under the Jeff Goldblum name. I feel I've earned my way into being a serious player at this point.

I haven't played fighting games in ages but it seemed like akuma was better in close

but then the guy playing akuma switched it up and was doing a lot of aerial moves and ranged moves. seemed like he should have won. but he never did a special like the chun li player.

you're right the 2nd video was more fun to watch. it seems like you find a similar character in every fighting game.

also w/ the female characters it seems like japanese foot/domme fetish is at play. but I guess those characters make sense if most people would rather look at a woman with buff legs than a woman with buff arms.

All characters have up to ten taunts they can use

Dan can taunt five different ways and has a Super Taunt which uses a full bar of blue meter

His regular taunting actually slightly fills his blue meter and is tactically useful for this.

I guess a real, real answer would be

I find fun in competing. I feel like fighting games break it down to a simple concept of fighting myself against my opponent. It's a combination of reaction timing, reading people, and deploying techniques into a fight.

The reading people is a huge thing and I find a lot of fun in it and manipulating people into thinking you are going to do one thing and instead do another is a surprise and I like surprises. I also like comebacks and with fighting games this is something that is more realistic than say StarCraft or DOTA where a comeback is likely more of a result of the opponent's mistakes than getting gud.

I like that fighting games isolate to themselves, too. It feels like a community. I find Smash Brothers to not be in this community persay (due to a lot of factors), but I think they have a very similar thing going for them and would consider them at least cousin communities.

DOTA-style games do a thing where a character has a lot of lore to follow and you can play the character and win. I feel that fighting games share this, too. This grabs me, too. I tend to play characters that I like personality wise or story wise.

For example, I play Ken basically because I like his smile.

With Phoenix Wright, for a more real answer, I liked that he was the worst character and that he was a defense attorney. It made turnabouts very fun. There was a certain hype there that just got me excited to bring him out against people who I never had fought before.

And that's really what it's all about in the end. Testing yourself and your opponents. Finding someone you are 50/50 with, is a really neat experience. Get yourself in a room with four others of similar skill level, and there is a really good time to be had. When someone deploys new tech, it will destroy. People will then try to have to counter that tech with other tech and it becomes a constant arms race of new ideas and strategies.

This is the same with all games, but a match only lasts less than five minutes and it's a fight. It's hype. It's aggressive. It's competitive.

What makes the Daigo Parry so exciting is that it wasn't just Daigo happening to be able to parry every hit in the Super and win. It's that Daigo baited Justin into doing the Super with the intention of parrying and winning as a result.

It's such a pivotal moment in the hype and competitiveness that surrounds fighting games that it is featured in the HD re release of SF3 and you can try to do the Daigo Parry yourself.

Now is a great time to peak your head in on the fun with Street Fighter V.

You'll be able to see the game evolve, too. Which is kinda fun.

I recommend the PC version. There is crossplay with the PS4 version, too.

The PC version supports 360 and Xbone controllers out of the box (which includes any fighting game accessories made for either system)

You can play this with a keyboard, though. A HitBox controller is what I use and it's basically a keyboard.


I'm not on V, yet, though. Maybe when Juri comes out. Which should be soon.

At 1:07 I throw papers which locks the opponent into blocking and then I throw Hyper Maya. Hyper Maya finishes with a low attack and as that happens I jump up and finger them in the face. The finger is a high attack. You can't block high and low at the same time, thus this setup is unlockable and you will take a hit

At the 2:00 mark, I throw projectiles and as they are coming out, I dash underneath the opponent and change the direction they have to block (Capcom fighters use backwards as block)

That is a crossup

My SF4 EX Tatsu over the opponent to behind is a crossup, too

I like fighting games in the past because of the style/theming of different characters. and it's pretty straightforward, like racing games. not super hard to get into. although some fighting games get complicated. I remember virtua fighter... was it 4 or 5? the dodges and the different styles per character got pretty complicated for me. I never had a group of guys to play them with so playing regularly enough to 'git gud' was unlikely

You really just need to roll with something you are comfortable with. Experiment.

If you are fine with a 360 controller that'll work. If you are even good with the keyboard that's fine too

HitBox is pretty much a keyboard, just less buttons

I don't like controllers because I can't double quarter circle for supers and ultras that well

Chun-Li is a charge character and her specials require holding backwards or down for at least 2 seconds, aka charging

Kikoken (the projectile) is "Charge Backwards > Forward + Punch" with each strength punch changing the effect of the projectile

The Super is "Charge Backwards > Forward > Backwards > Forward + Kick"

To combine these didn't seem possible to me

But, it's actually kinda interesting. You have to do this fast

"Charge Backwards > Forward + Punch > Backwards > Forward + Kick"

That will do Kikoken into Super.

Whereas Street Fighter is full of people my age and just as jaded

I kept sending gg to people to try to find someone who would respond with passion and give me a fight and well got that instead

I hadn't played Marvel in so long I needed to reinstall it and clean the disc and do that rebuild database thing on PlayStation

It's interesting how Tekken Revolution works. Like I said, it is free.

You are awarded a Battle Coin every 30 minutes to a maximum of five.

There is also an Arcade Mode that uses Arcade Coins but I haven't tried that yet.

You can also win Premium Tickets which you can use interchangeably with Battle and Arcade coins and winning those fights awards four times the experience.

You can buy Premium Coins which work the same way, but you can buy them. Not sure the prices.


Now, the engine is very clearly Tekken Tag 2 except it isn't a Tag fight. It also gives you new special moves which are pretty useful actually. Other than that, it's Tekken.

Rounds are best out of seven.

Juri seems...meh. IDK. I guess she seems kinda interesting. But, as my main complain with V has been, she doesn't look as fun as her Ultra IV counterpart.

It was hilariously bad stuff. Kenny's like a pro in comparison. I'm too slow about it all. And my moves are laggy, and half the time I don't hit the buttons in the right order so I'm just jumping and kicking randomly.

It's just super enjoyable. When I was little I never had anyone to play with, so it was constantly me against the computer. At least this way I'm playing against other people.

I had a lot of bit of street fighter 2 I'll have you know! That's why I know I'll get blisters. It didn't happen just once. I just had no friends, so I had noone to play against. And the computer becomes very predictable.
And after that I got soul caliber, because I loved the arcade game (definitely better in the arcade).

You'd probably like Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Remix HD Edition better than me, then.

It has online multiplayer. Haven't tried it yet though. When I was playing folks the other day same room I was destroying with air grabs.
