Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Been playing this after completing the .hack//GAMES series of the .hack games and I was wondering if anyone else played any of these?
They are pretty good JRPGs, I mean, you just run around and bop things or hit the magic button in the first 4, but after completing .GU I'm actually very impressed with the changes. The blocking, the specials, the ren-geki. I mean, I barly used magic at all.

after reading this http://www.giantbomb.com/hackgu-vol-1-rebirth/61-1695/ (http://www.giantbomb.com/hackgu-vol-1-rebirth/61-1695/) am i to understand its a single player mmorpg? if so that's :awesome:
you are playing a game about playing a game... i suddenly want to play this game in a game...
.hack//G.U. is set up to mimic an MMORPG. For the greater portion of the game you are inside the game known as The World. You do the normal things you would in an MMORPG, create a party, explore, perform quests, and of course, grind, grind, grind! In order to explore The World you can utilize a Steam bike to get from place to place quicker. When you log off the game you are taken to the desktop of a computer. The computer gives you various options such as changing your wallpaper, changing the background music, checking your email, playing the card battle games, reading the official The World forums, and looking at news websites.

.hack is pretty awesome, actually. i played the original games, never tried GU

I always wanted to play the .hack games... but i never got a chance since i never had a ps2... Now that i have a ps3, i don't think any of the .hack games are on it... are they?
-
No, they are all on PS2 still though. And yes, .hack is a game about a game.
Basically, you play a character with powers outside the regular scope of the game. Your goal is usually to stop whatever rampant AI is currently throwing people in Comas and you do this through pretty much openly cheating the system (LOL data draining in an arena).
-
hmm.... how interesting... i may have to play this game... i like openly exploiting the system...
-
Well, it's cheating in "the world" but it's part of the play for the .hack games. Also, they closely interact with the //sign and //roots animes as well. It's definatly one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. Try .hack//infection which is the first in the first series(4 games). .hack//Gu REbirth is the first of the second series (3 games). While G.U. Focuses on gameplay, Infection, Mutation, Outbreak and Quarrantine (first 4 games) focus on story.
One of the cool things about the game, is that you use key-words to access dungeons randomly if you want. And there are THOUSANDS of dungeons in each game.
Just make sure you get used to "Delta Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground". Thats pretty much where the entire universe rotates around.

Watch the anime if you want a feel of the game before you play it.

Sign was good, though it dragged on and fucking on towards the end. They give you a little bit of lesbian fanservice to compensate.

rofl. I still need to finish part 4 of the ps2 games. then i guess i can try GU.
I really don't want to be a twinblade though... I want to be a wavemaster and just roflmage all over the place.

Actually, Magic got a thorough dicking in GU. Anyone can use it, but the magic classes are just a little bit better and learn the advanced magics for free instead of spending 3k on the scroll. However, the casters have much for SP and seem perfectly content to be set as a heal-bot.
