your wife is defending new york city? that's good, a stronger border patrol and homeland defense is what we need. too bad we are almost 7 years later and it's still neglected. and OBL is still at large, hundreds of thousands dead and wounded in a pathetic sideshow in Iraq.
the only way you could think combat doesnt taint you is if you never did it. read "dispatches" from vietnam, "this kind of war" from korea, "thin red line" from ww2, "all quiet on the western front" from ww1, "red badge of courage" the shining honor and nobility is a myth peddled by generals, politicians, recruiters, and bought by those who have never fought (and most people who "go to war" dont fight). ask any of your relatives who served in the 1940s or any other war, in the infantry or in a fighter/bomber crew or on a surface warfare ship or sub.
but, if you really think it's so great to fight, maybe I'll see you over there on my next deployment. along with the president's kids.
If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est
Pro patria mori.
