Lamentations: Tax rate 28% NAO! Sign up for a harbor grant (although you may have to wait a bit I'm not sure) then aim for the fast food construction and beer bonus resources. In the mean time, see if you can drop silver and lead for wheat, fish, spices or gems, Don't worry too much about military yet, just aim to keep your (soldiers) around 30-40% of your working citizens. Same goes with planes, don't spend a lot on them until you can get level 9s

Nitemarebforcrismas: What Dagny said. Also your tax rate should be 28% regardless of losing happiness

I'd sell the tanks, unless you plan to raid.
Work your trades out better.
Focus on infra building.  Get a trade set that does that.
Spend no money on tech yet.

also nitemare, drop your tanks and CM's enless you're planning on being in a war soon, for CM's you can buy them then launch um, and tanks are an unnecessary burden on bills when you're not in war.

2nd as said tax should be 28% always....

3rd, you have a bit to much land i believe, with water you get an extra 50people per mile bonus before they get angry, so only buy land when it goes red on your view nation screen.

and as said government should be monarchy(or revolutionary government if you're people want that, i find the bonus to enviroment=less the +1 happiness from my people wanting revolutionary government)

but you do have the best trades...lucky bastard

OK I have acquired a harbour and am now sorting out my trades. Trying to get those resources you suggested, but between the inactives and just plain ol' jerks (aka people who don't need my resources) it can take a while if I want the team bonus (which I do, fyi).

Buying up some good ol' architecture and not much else right now. I think after bills and then taxes I end up with like 90k, but I spend 50k of it and leave the rest so I can be sure to pay the bills the next time before getting taxes (in case I have spare cash and increase stuff between it, so I get more money).

Efficiency doesn't matter in the short term. A 1 week old nation who got 3m in aids and spent it all on tech will have a great efficiency but it doesn't make their nation any good.

I figured you might be saving up for a wonder. Border walls would give you +2.8 happiness the first time then +2 from then on. As long as your income is below $415, a border will have you collect more but each is worth less and less so I would recommend just 1 or 2 to start.

And the main thing I am wondering about:

Also - I was wondering what is the point of this game? If it is just to grow then that is really boring - do we have mass alliance wars or something and can I attack people soon?

You should fix your trades. Go to Dagny's ideal trade groups thread in the trade board.
Delete all of those improvements and follow Damen's guide pineed in the question board. Unfortunately all the goods ones are the expensive ones
There are occasionally massive wars but we don't really try to start any >_> But hey, there's always tech raiding if you want to attack stuff.
