Title: Windows 8
Post by: Croix on December 13, 2012, 03:53:48 pm
This showed up in my spam folder today.

Windows 8 is a lousy Operating System. Its supposed improved performance and claims of improved battery life are exaggerrated, Windows Store is a shameless attempt to pump people for money, and the user interface changes decrease productivity. It is a poor product created for the sake of getting money from your pockets into theirs while offering you as little value as possible. Security is not much different - most exploits and malware that work for earlier Windows versions will still work on Windows 8. One thing that might not work well on it is you, because they switched the interface around so that you have new computer skills to learn. It doesn't really matter whether you want to buy it anyway, because sooner or later it will probably be forced on you by hardware manufacturers.

Windows 8 is a shameless marketing ploy, introduced just in time for the "holiday shopping season", which is another big scam. There is nothing "Holy" about it, because "Christmas" is a big lie.

Excerpts from http://findtruthmirror.com/xmas.htm (http://findtruthmirror.com/xmas.htm)

"Xmas has absolutely nothing to do with God. It was originally called Yuletide, which is a pagan festival from the Babylonian Mystery religion of SUN worship. The Babylonians were merchants (they were the originators of the "Market-system" which is condemned by God) and they used Yuletide to sell their merchandise because, like today, it made them lots of money."

"SANTA CLAUS is an anagram for SATAN."

"The fact that the three kings came to pay homage, and brought gifts of great wealth, was used by Satan to give, to those who perverted the teaching, the idea to continue and even increase the sales of their merchandise (a great marketing-exercise for them). So the virgin-birth was hijacked and corrupted into a time to make lots of money, using the ultimate in "high-pressure sales techniques", which was to falsely use God's Son's name, in order to embarass people, who couldn't afford to buy gifts, to go into debt or steal in order to buy their merchandise. By doing this the rich merchants ruin the lives of the poor, driving them further into debt and poverty or crime, whilst making themselves richer and richer."

Do you want to give more of your hard-earned money to an opulent mega-corporation? Do you want to serve satan? Don't fall for the cheap con-artist tricks of the Windows peddlers.

I went to Best Buy the other day.  Was looking at some random PC when the sales kid comes up to me and asks if I need anything.  I tell him I'm just trying to see how much I'm gonna hate Windows 8.  His response, "You're probably going to hate it a lot".  Not much of a salesman, but I appreciate the honesty.

Yeah, that was a shitty rant.  Also, fuck Christmas.

Christimas is the most magical time of the year.  Windows 8 is the technological convergence I have been waiting for for a decade - the merger of PC, phone, and tablet with a perfectly interoperable OS.  I can't wait to get it, and will do so as soon as SP4 is out in 2017.

Windows 8 isn't a bad idea. It's the marketing that is awful.

Microsoft is taking good ideas and ruining them through their marketing. It's insane. Compared to their track record, Microsoft has been very open to new ideas and fearless to change for the past couple of years, but their execution is just completely awful.

Things are looking bad for Windows right now. Windows 7 was an attempt to keep customers and save their reputation (which was damaged because of the poor execution of Windows Vista). Windows 8 is an attempt to broaden their horizons and actually bring people back to them. But, more than that, it is trying to evolve with the times.

No one has a Windows phone. Why not?

Their reputation for hardware is generally pretty good, not counting the 360.

Why are these things not selling like hotcakes?

Here's a problem. The ARM version of Windows 8 (Windows RT) is only available for their devices. Oh, and they haven't (yet) opened their API up for programmers to take advantage of the OS.

So basically consumers find Windows RT and the ARM-based Surface to be thing that doesn't have an real apps they are familiar with (iTunes, Firefox, Chrome, etc)

So why even make the ARM version if you are going to stand in the way of people developing for it?

I really find myself rooting for Microsoft hoping they won't fuck something up nowadays. And I don't even use their products anymore.

I know a few people who have Windows 8 phones, and they love it.  One of them even carries an iPhone as well, and spurned it.  I can't tell you how much that tickles me.

As for their ARM strategy, you'd think they would have learned from BlackBerry.  I am writing this from a PlayBook so this is personal.

So, I've got friends that have been using windows 8 for a little over a year (Because we goto a college connected withe MSDNAA we got copies of windows 8 while it was in beta), and all but one of them hate it.  And that one that doesn't hate it, has flawed logic about 90% of life and noone trusts his opinion anyway.

I mean, it would work great on a tablet or a touch-screen, but I really don't like it at all.  I prefer an operating system that doesn't look like it belongs on a cell-phone.

However, I'm happy to learn that the extended support for windows 7 to cover almost the entire projected operating time of windows 8.

Do they hate W8 or Metro?  I am just waiting for them to officially bring back the start menu so I dont have to fork money over to Stardock.  I have been a. Eta tester for every MS OS since Win ME, and have had enought.  SP1 all the way...

I am delighted to be presiding over the fall of Apple.  God I hate them.

Seriously.  Reoga, you and your ex might have had threesomes in common, but maybe he just wasn't as scatalogical as you.
