It's one of the random sub-rules some people follow. I go by the "you can't lose again until you've forgotten about it" rule.

Damn it, I'd completely forgotten about the game!  Thanks to you guys, I just lost after finally forgetting it, seemingly, for good.  

BTW, I taught the game to my parents and they have yet to lose.  Either they're liars, they forget easily, or they didn't listen to a word I said.
