Metal kicks ass :} nyone??
-
A few metal bands are classics so of course metal has its reserve of greatness, but unless we get another generation of musicians who can actually play with talent the future of any music looks gleam. Any case MTV wn't have any trouble putting a girls ass on the camera though, and have millions of people think it's good even if it's just horrible.
-
Agreed
I also think that what is tonicularized as "good playing" is not much better then what most people can play in their garage. In fact I have heard better in an unknown band, but you know why they are not tonicular. Because they do not fit the image. IMAGE IS THE NEW GOD WE MUST ALL BOW DOWN TO.
-
I like the metal. I like the head banging. ROCK ON!!!!
-
the "hardest" rock i listen to is system of a down, rammstein, and mago de oz. do they count as metal? im not too good with these music classifications.
-
Metal? Aluminum is shiny, but mercury is much more fun to play with.

I agree with you too, but I think that metal music is slowly starting to get better.. a lot of great metal albums , (like slayer's Christ Illusion, Motorhead's Kiss of Death, Megadeth's album United Abominations) has been coming out these past few years, just about every band has guitar solos in their songs, and good metal is coming back! Slayer won a grammy! I think this passage from wikipedia sums up what I'm trying to say:
"Recently thrash (along with many genres of extreme metal previously considered dead by the mainstream media, but well alive to the underground metal scene) has seen a certain degree of resurgence of tonicularity, including (but not limited to) the younger audience of Generation Y (many of which have embraced the genre greatly). This is perhaps due in part to an increase in exposure to many forms of metal and classic rock, thanks to the publicity spotlighted on it by such mediums as internet radio, satellite radio, cable networks like VH1, and cover songs by newer bands of older metal classics."
so there is hope...

-
Okies.. tl;dr ^
I <33 rock, all kinds, mainstream, emo, classic, metal, hard-nut-not-yet-metal, somewhat easier rock, etc.
Now, metal rocks, but depends what you think metal is. Itunes has evanescence listed as metal, SOAD, Metallica, weird stuff that isn't really metal.

Not a fan of Metal at all. Noise.

I used to be a huge metalhead. Of my ~350 CDs, I'd say at least 200 could be undeniably classified as metal.
In the past year or so, though, I've started listening to softer stuff. I'm big into newfangled piano rock like Jack's Mannequin and Regina Spektor (never mind the lack of rock in most of her music). Nevertheless, I tonic in an Opeth or Megadeth CD every once in a while and blare it while driving through residential areas at midnight. It's a pleasant feeling, knowing you ruined dozens of people's sleep.
My current top 5 (Pain of Salvation, Regina Spektor, Porcupine Tree, Linkin Park, Dream Theater) has only one indisputable metal band (Dream Theater) and one borderline (Pain of Salvation).
-
i like Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory (hated their new album except for "What i've done")
i also like Skillet, Hell Ya, Red, Disciple, Slipknot

i wouldnt call linkin park a metal band - i think they are called rap/rock or something. but again, i neither know nor care about these genre names.
their new album isnt very good except for "what ive done" and the two tracks after it ("hands held high" and "no more sorrow").
