Either:
A) They needed to carry it from point A to point B and it just happened that a carrier was going precisely from A to B, so they decided to be cheap and loaded it onto the ship so they wouldn't waste airplane fuel.
B) It broke, they can't fix it where it broke.
C) Pixels everywhere.

While it could be that they just were transporting it, I don't see them putting it so that the wing is in the middle of where planes would need that last little bit of space to get off the carrier
