So, I said I'd look into search filtering right?
Turns out I don't even have to do anything because IT ALREADY EXISTS ON OUR SITE.
I will enlighten you though, as apparently, it was lack of attention to detail that caused this. So, here it is, in 4 simple steps, HOW TO brutha A SEARCH BY FORUM:
Now, if this was just recently added, and doesn't work properly, feel free to ignore everything below the following line (which will be properly labeled) and let me know (I will then remove the comments below the line). HOWEVER, considering I don't think this was added recently, whoever had the original issue with the search, please read below the line, as you are probably stupid and shouldn't be on the internet.
_____________________THIS IS THAT LINE I WAS TALKING ABOUT____________________________________
FUCKING SERIOUSLY? I mean, it's literally RIGHT THERE. All you had to do was look 2 inchs lower. I mean, it's even a GIANT GREEN BAR. This was probably the fastest fix to an ID-10-T user-level error I've ever seen. I mean, there was no work to be done. It was just lack of attention to detail. Please, everyone who has ever had a problem searching without being able to brutha, go and die, because you are a bunch of blind stupid idiots who don't need to be polluting the gene-pool with your poor vision and ability to use the internet.
Thank you, and goodnight.

What?
Who didn't know about the search? I've been using it for ages. Problem is that is was/is so slow.
-
from what I understand from this topic: http://rialliance.net/index.php?topic=44199.0 (http://rialliance.net/index.php?topic=44199.0)
It's that the search is just slow because of the spam forum. BUT, if you exclude the spam forum, you should be able to search faster, as it doesn't check the spam forum.
If it's slow even with the spam forum unselected, then I'll go back to working on this to make it so that it just ignores anything with spam in the location via editing it. It uses php to search, and I should be able to work something out. If not, both of my roommates are the only 2 people from my college who are better than me at programming (the thee of us were actually offered jobs teaching programming once we get our bachelors from depaul).

Oh right, I get it now.
I just assumed Kenny was right so thought the spam forum had to go. Kenny's words have never failed me before.
-
Actually, if I remember a previous conversation on the topic, it still does check the spam forum. What happens is that the system checks every forum no matter what, but all it does different is not show you the spam forum results.
-
well, without the spam forum there, I can't really test it. But, if thats truly the case, then I shall work on a script that just ignores the spam forum or something like that.

Basically, a table exists with every search term in it. Let's just oxshit and say it's a table full of hashes of search terms.
These hashes list message IDs and topic IDs that contain your search term.
So the table was full of dickbutt having 1000 topic IDs and 10,000 message ids.
Besides, I didn't like the spam board because it was stupid. I only gave logical reasons because I didn't want a resistance to a board getting killed just because I thought it was stupid.
Just like karma. Hahahaha, I took that puppy out and shot it, too. This time, I got the RIA to shoot it's own puppy!
Suckers, ahahahahaha...

I'm fully on Kenny's side with this. I still need to make the official poll, but deleting it helps us more than it hurts us. By a long mile.
-
I still think it should exist if there are any other viable options to shortening the search time. I say wait and see what Pterrydactylhis comes up with.

Give me another week or so. I've been getting it setup and tinkering. I think I might be able to find a way. It uses some stuff with PHP I'm not too familiar with, so I'm learning as I go.
