Title: simcity 5 topic
Post by: Fake from State Jarm on March 06, 2013, 01:28:54 am
so far, most anticipated game of 2013. came out yesterday (the 5th). It's very multiplayer. there have been some server issues but I expect maxis to get on top of it.

for those who don't know of the simcity series, ... well, it's ... a really good city building simulator. google it.

changes I've noticed from previous iterations: maps are smaller, perhaps due to the glassbox engine, so that it doesn't create too much processor strain... but I don't think this puts a dent in the fun. it's easier to specialize and create coordinating cities... such as all residential cities, or educational cities so you can have another one with no schools. pretty much every service can be sold to another city or acquired from another city. regions range from having 3 to 16 city sites.

some things are simplified to streamline the game, but it doesn't seem to have dumbed it down at all, rather I think its more complex but also more intuitive; all the challenges and changes in the game are driven by actual agents... individual criminals, individual police, individual cars, everything.

2 things I love so far:

non perpendicular roads. with really great road mapping tools. allowing you to make perfect straight lines, perpendiculars, 90 degree arcs, circles, or just curves. although I think I'm going to miss being able to make experimental train cities with hardly any roads.

and also, upgradable buildings, in which you add on modular components, in a really intelligent fashion.

Anyway. type in your Origin usernames if you play. mine is AeusDeif.

Im gonna have to wait till the 7th when it comes out in Britain, but really looking forward to it. It looks a lot different than Simcity 4, a more casual style of play, but I think its a good thing. It will be attractive for new players while still keeping most of its appeal to previous players.

I too like the way you can customise your ploppable buildings, ambulance bays for hospitals, helicopter pads for police stations.

I dont have an origin account but it looks like Ill be forced to make one

The way all the simulation runs is impressive, hope my laptop can handle it.

I'll wait until people can actually get on their servers

Not gonna lie, I'm not much of a gamer, but from the trailers I've seen, I am incredibly tempted to buy this game. If it was cheaper than $60, I probably would have already. It just looks so well made and if you team up with the right people, the multiplayer aspect could really push it over the top.

yeah I was going to say, this is going to be great... when servers aren't crashing every hour

even between crashes I'm having fun. give it a few days

fyi if anyone tries it out, recommend the european servers, they're more stable right now. idk what will happen when it opens in europe tomorrow.

this game has a 1.7 on metacritic. partly because people are protesting DRM on single player games. but partly because the servers are f'd in the A's and there's a lot of bugs/some divergence from what the veterans expected

edit: lol great review, very brief but accurate.
