ok this doesn't qualify as a rant, since it won't be emotionally charged, but if you want to see a woman's-struggle-plot done right, see east side sushi. it's about a latina joining a traditional japanese work environment.

the main character is relatable with humble beginnings and a good attitude.

she isn't a douche struggling to pretend she's not a douche. she's struggling because life is hard.

she isn't disrespectful of men or of other cultures just because she's not included in them. she works hard to contribute to the good things she sees in them.

she doesn't divide herself from every other group while disagreeing with them. she doesn't alienate everyone. she wins them over with her character and hard work.

she doesn't make it into a fight from a minority identity. she deserves what she deserves because she is a person. she doesn't act like a victim or carry a vendetta or a grudge. she just develops her talent, and that is what should qualify someone to be an exception to any norm. exceptional talent.

really it's not a woman's-struggle-plot, it's a human struggle, which is why it works imo. in fact I hope this helps people to see, you don't have to join an ism to address problems in society. you change society by engaging it from within, not by splintering off into a subculture.
