How do you even write a Metal song?

It seems like you, as the lead singer (Ahem, sorry, I mean screamer) would just say "Okay, guys, just play some random stuff on them there electric guitars and I'll yell a bunch of unintelligible chants and phrases."

The only problem with that is, how do they ever remember exactly what they played...?

But also, if you generalize all metal into the metal category, then you suck balls. because lamb of god metal is different than dragonforce metal, black sabbath metal, and other stuff. Grindcore, Mathcore, Nu Metal, Metal, Black Metal, Heavy Metal, Power Metal etc etc etc. You cant just say metal. Say screamo or something

To write a technical metal song, you need to have an actual (i.e. lern something other than 4/4 or 3/4 time) understanding of time signatures and how they work. All metalcore songs are musically "valid" in their timing. As for the riffs, idunno, they just sound cool
