If they sung a song about Buddhism, I would not be offended, if they sung a song about Judaism I would not be offended, if they sung a song about the Greek Gods I would not be offended. You overestimate the patience of people. A heavily religious Jewish/Buddhist/Hindu/what-have-you family could see that and get offended enough to stop watching the show. From the YouTube video, this seemed like a major song (I really don't know how this whole thing works, I've never watched the show). People don't like seeing things they don't support supported on a public show.
