Actually we've been friends for a while, and I've liked her pretty much since we've met. I finally told her yesterday that I liked her and she responded by saying that she liked me too, but her semester is too crammed to have a relationship. I said ok, and we decided to wait until the Christmas Prom to go out, and then see what happens after that. So I'm all stoked, being this would be my first date in the past year and a bit. Today I talk to her at lunch, then after, she texts me to say that she only wants to be friends, and that she'd still like to go to the dance with me.

I either need advice or something to cheer me up, because I am feeling incredibly like a pile of nothing at the moment.

i'm going to pretend i'm like some smooth guy who gives out good relational advice. but really this is what i would do.


get over her as much as you can. you could try looking for other girls to like and flirting with them. you dont have to be a manwhore to be social and explore your options. liek, have fun and shit. so that you are stoked about things other than her. and i mean srsly, not just pretending to be over her.

go to the dance if you want, do it as a friend. be a good friend to her, just a friend, don't be jealous or pay too much attention to her, so she knows you're over her. you could even talk about other girls at the prom. but srsly dont turn into a douche that pretends you never wanted her either. don't be mean. just be a nice guy who is happy with his life and having a good time with her.

with this, there's a chance that she may change her mind at some point, but you have to really get over her, and that is the best thing for you to do anyway. you may just end up being a good friend to her, but if you do you will have learned to be a lot smoother, and to believe in yourself enough to get over her will make you a stronger person which will make you much more attractive. this is a win-win for you, whether she will like you or not. and who knows even if she doesn't maybe she'll be a good friend to you too.

Nice going man. I have to agree with this! Be kind, see what you can do, but in the end it is just fun anyways so dance with girls and if she has a problem then give her the choice. She will either like you enough to jump at the oppertunity otherwise miss it, or she has no right to complain!

Oh, and now that I think about it, hazard is right.  Be nice.  Being an asshole sometimes looks like it'll get you a girl, and in the short-term, maybe it will.  You want anything more than a month or two, and being an asshole is a sure way to get things to fail.  But you can't be her bitch either.  Compliment her when she's earned it, tease her when she says something stupid, but never carry it too far.  In theory it works.  In practice for me I'm too fucking awkward to go anywhere with it.  Although this time I might get lucky.  Read the relevant parts of my other topic.  By relevant I mean the parts where I didn't wander off topic.
