You didn't say what we have to discuss about so...

I'd like to inform you about the story of an abissinian named Boxer and a boxer named Abissinian.

Once upon a time, in a land called Cierra, there lived an abissinian by the name of Boxer. He was known for his uber secksay features such as the pink eyes that sparkles in the moonlight and his amazing massaging skills. Cats all over, regardless of breed, were jealous of his God-giveneth.

At the same time, on the opposite side of the world... THERE WAS A LAND! Huzzah! More place to farm and find porn! The land was known as Azuralie. The Azuralites were known for their notorious porn-stealing skills, but the best thief of them all were... the Beautiful boxer known as Abissinian. Dogs all over, regardless of breed, were jealous of her God-given talent.

One day, at a party in the center of the world... a place known as the Monkey's Chow, Abissinian met Boxer. It was love at first sight for the two. Abissinian never seen any being as handsome as Boxer... and vice versa, but replace "handsome" with "beautiful," k? K. Boxer walked towards Abissinian and said, "Sup, Cutie?"

And Abissinian answered, "Sup with you?"

Boxer smiled and said, "K-k... can I take you home to show to my mommie?"

Abissinian looked at her watch... "Hmmm, I still have a lot of time, sure, why not!"

The love-struck couple went out the door and sailed the five seas known as the Sea Collection of Brian, an infamous computer geek who died at the age of 300. Anyways, when they got to Boxer's home, the door opened suddenly and someone from inside screamed, "BOXER, THE PORN IS MISSING!!!"

"Uhhh, mom..." Boxer said.

"Your mom watches porn?" asked Abissinian.

"Yeah, she's an addict," answered Boxer.

"I see," said Abissinian.

Boxer holds on to Abissinian and they went inside his home. As soon as his mom saw Abissinian's face, you can tell she knew that our Beautiful Dog was the greatest porn thief and the mom was mad as hell.

"Mommie Thom, this is Abissin-"

"I KNOW WHO SHE IS!!! SHE'S A PORN THIEF!!!" screamed Boxer's mom.

Boxer turns to Abissinian, "You steal porn?"

"Well, yes... but-"

"I hate you! I THOUGHT WE HAD SOMETHING SPECIAL! I GAVE EVERYTHING THAT EVER BELONGED TO ME... TO YOU!!!"

"Baby, listen, I would never steal your porn!"

"What about my mom's?"

"I didn't steal hers though!"

"I don't believe you!"

Abissinian couldn't believe what she was hearing... especially from her one true love! She ran out of the house bursting in tears and back to the Harbor of the Grand Xanth.

"I'd like to go to Azuralie, please," she said to the Captain of the Ship. The captain's name is George and the ship's name is the Col's Talented Monkey on My Back.

"Sure thing, beautiful lass," smiled George, "just get on board and I'll start sailing."

"K-k, thanks." Abissinian jumps on the ship.

Five days later, they reached home... when Abissinian got there, she saw Boxer waiting for her outside her front yard. She started crying again and ran to him, "What are you doing here?"

"My mom and I realized we were wrong... we caught the real porn thief. So then I ran to mu family's dungeon where we keep a teleporter and then... here I am."

"Awwww."

"I'm really sorry, love."

"It's okay... so long as you will believe me from now on."

"I will."

WOOOOOAAAAAH!!! Then a bystander threw an apple at the narrator and said, "Can we get this story finished?! Just marry these two and lets get it over with! I'm too tired of bystanding. I have to work tomorrow, man!"

And I say to the bystander, "K-k," after throwing a pineapple at the bystander.

The two got married the next day. The porn thief was sent to prison and setenced to 5 years of a minimum of 5 hours of buttsecks a day. Boxer's mom Thom was sent to rehabilitation because in this story, equal rights don't exist and female can't watch porn. A female horse's egg was fertilized. The universal peach tree learned to sing. Abissinian and Boxer ended up with seven puppy-kitties and they lived happily ever -... wait! A girl named Lanna kicked Colmonkey in the face in revenge of an old event. Okay, the main characters lived happily ever after!

This will smash down the argument and win me the 3,000,000.... hehehe

There's a young couple in the cinema. The girl says, "I must have a piss, can I squeeze past you?"
"Why don't you squat down on the floor and do it" says the boyfriend. "You'll have to disturb all these people, besides its dark, no one will see you."
"OK" she says. She pulls her drawers down and squats on the floor. The bloke starts feeling horny at the thought of her down there, so he reaches down and makes a grab.
He feels something long and hard and says, "Urgh! Have you changed your sex?"
"No" she says "I've changed my mind... I'm having a shit instead."

Thank you all very much

Mostly, yes.

As far as the actual thing goes...

I did find the steady progression of additions to the scenario and subsequent analysis of how said additions impacted the reader's view of the town to be quite interesting, not least of my reasons being that it was quite accurate. We really do have difficulty conceiving of actual happiness outside of a fictional context as a society. Of course, I could very well argue that pure happiness without misery against which it can be juxtaposed cannot truly exist, as represented by the small child in the room. Interestingly enough, that is probably the most outlandish part of the entire scenario, but it actually manages to ground it as the narrator predicts. Interesting paradox, that.

That is an interesting question, the answer to which has changed for me several times in the space it took to type this out. To be perfectly honest, I do not think I would. Living in a place of joy with a dark secret or leaving to go out into the unkown... I am extremely empathetic, but I have learned to control it, and I have already proven I can adapt to large shifts in my world view given enough time. I would almost certainly remain in Omelas.

It's an interesting bind. sacrifice all for one, or one for all? It seems to me that it's a practice seen often with the common scapegoat, taking one for the team, but why would they use a pillar of innocence as theirs, and not a criminal? It's perplexing.

The story confused me, and then amazed me, and left me with a distaste and a compassion for the people. The story was a perplexing read that led me through feelings that I wanted to change the scene, but that I could not because culture is too similar. I think that the "Utopian" ideal and the scapegoat mentality both carry equal weight in this story.

The Utopia that is painted in the first part of the story is so artificial it is scary. The narrator doesn't even know about what he's describing. They hold a "festival" but for what? The people may live free and in a world, but it is not a perfect one. A dark shadow lurks over the hole town. Can you have a utopia without perfection? Possibly, if you have an ignorance or, better yet, an innocence. Do the people of Omelas know that they are naked, do they have cares in world, and do they know right from wrong? We are left to speculate, but perhaps once people come to an understanding, they leave. That would explain those who leave and never return after gazing upon the child.

The child is a fascinating part of the story and added a great deal of depth to the story for me. It can be either a boy or a girl, though the child is a boy in this story. Regardless he is oppressed. Now, for some reason the people believe that he is oppressed for their good. For if he was not, then all would fall away from the innocence and freedom of their lives. Is this true, and who tells people this? Well, apparently folks reach the conclusion themselves, they believe that some are made to suffer. I don't think this is true, so what if he was released? Let me backtrack.

The society wasn't exactly a "utopia" as described. How did they provide for their needs? Did they have technology, contact with "non-utopian" individuals, or were they independent? Well, I think that they have to import/export, as no place is self-sufficient. Influence has to be a part of their society and eventually people do leave the utopia. The evidence that people leave is evidence enough to suggest this is an odd place, not a perfect place. So, Will they fall away from their innocence if they release the boy? No, for they have already lost it, they simply don't realize it yet. Suddenly, we swap ignorance for innocence. Should anyone be made to suffer from another person's ignorance? Certainly not. The child is sparing them nothing in being so caged.

In fact, the child is the very embodiment of their way of life. That's why they are so afraid to lose him, to set the child free. Really, they've made the child a suppressed god. In that, it controls them, and if you treat it wrong, the child destroys life as you know it. Ignorance rears again, because they fear life outside of their "utopia" because they not understand about how others view themselves.

In essence, that is how a lot of people are. When people are young they go out, and want to learn about new and different things. But, as they grow older they learn to focus on their career an family. People become attached to "the way things are" and don't want to change. In fact, they will fight to "maintain their way of life." Such was a cause of the civil war. The statement that slaves were necessary to the "Southern way of life" and that to abolish slavery was to abolish their way of life. Countless wars have been fought over this very issue, even WWII was an attempt to get back to the pre-WWI German ideals. Granted, Hitler pushed that venue well beyond that, but it was certainly a platform point.

Therefore, I can not answer the question this article asked, would I walk or stay, because I'm already there. I already live in a world where some people are oppressed as people look ideally by, to scared to become involved because that might mean war, and that might mean it affects us. I already live in a country that thinks it is the best in the world, and all other people live in some different way, and that we're right and you're wrong. I already live in a country that turns a blind eye towards "sin" and if you want to do it, that's fine with you mentality. Do I walk or stay? I stay, because someway I have to make a difference, however small.

-  -  -  -

I love doing literary analysis even though I'm not great at it. So, maybe I missed the point of the article, maybe not, but I typed all that up and I'm gonna post it!
