A strip of seaweed. That counts for our entire group.

But at least the food was great. Pheasant soup and venison dip...simply delectable. Actually, I want some now. : (

And the company was cool. Bunch 'a good guys drinking beer and laughing and telling stories. Fun times in the cabin. And no, I don't drink.

So you really just went somewhere cold and sat around a hole in the ice doing absolutely nothing?

We drove out on a frozen lake bed, drilled holes, set up tip-ups and poles, and then stood around in the cold cracking jokes. Me, I looked like a f***ing ninja, and I had my iPod hooked up under my gear. It actually wasn't bad. Just being out there is fun.

There were tons of rented shanties out there, and we kept seeing all the shanties getting tip-ups, like in a big circle around our chosen location. It was pretty sad.

They're fishing hooks attached to, usually, wooden blocks. It uses a spring loaded flag that p0ps up when something snags the line.

I've always wanted to give ice fishing a try. I enjoy fishing much more than hunting. That could have something to do with the fact that a drunk with a fishing pole is less likely to shoot somebody than a drunk with a rifle.

Ice fishing is cold, but fun if you have a shanty, have company, have something to do, etc. Just being out there is cool, pun intended. The guys out there had warm clothes, beer, and friends. That seemed to make it fun for them.
