Dude, get rid of McAfee.  Norton is much better since their rebuild 3 which is over 2 years ago.  Otherwise use Kaspersky.  Then you can surf all the oral Kazakh cheerleaders you want.

I still don't get all the McAfee hate. All the tech people I spoke to here told me it's not so bad when I asked whether I should switch to something like AVG.

Reasons to hate McAfee:

- 5 years ago McAfee was good because its client was small (ie it did not impact system performance much), at a time when Norton was punishing.  Then Norton caught up and McAfee bloated.

- If the point is to defend against viruses, I favour Norton because it has a larger install base than any other, so they are first to get into trouble statistically.

- Their mother company, Network Associates, forward booked revenue in breach of SEC regulations, even while they were under investigation.  Their CEO was jailed, along, I think, with 22 others.  They make your security software.  (ok, it is a geeky point, but the irony is not lost on me.  I have tried in vain to convince peopke for 5 years that this is funny, and will not give up).

Yeah i think, if you have an original OS, sure.
And bums right, MSE is pretty good, but if you want to go non microsoft or your os doesn't come with it or you DO WHAT YOU WANT CAUSE A PIRATE IS FREE. Don't look beyond kaspersky...
Actually you can peek at nod32 but NOTHING beyond that.

It could vary by region I guess? I'm almost certain it doesn't come with Windows in the US. Windows update has it as an optional download or something.

Security essentials is a lark.  It is a conflict of interest for MS to be protecting its own lazy code.  Go with Norton 360 build 5 - it is not particularly snazy, but it works.  I am a bittorrent hound, and previously k-lite, and have never had an issue.  That said I don't have Leo's particular interest in Siberian cheerleaders.
